Job Summary

Wolverine Essentials is seeking highly motivated and service passionate students to join our department. These student employees will be the primary day-to-day staff in the Wolverine Essentials storefront, helping students access food, clothing, and household items, and connecting them to our case management services as needed. Applicants must be enrolled at least part-time at the University of Michigan-Flint and be available to work 15 hours per week for the duration of the employment period.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with the daily operations of the Wolverine Essentials basic needs hub including the storefront (campus food pantry).
  • Oversee food and clothing inventory including ordering food and supplies as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety guidelines and policies.
  • Receive food and clothing donations per the stated guidelines.
  • Provide one-on-one intakes for new users, discuss additional resource needs and make appropriate referrals.
  • Work with the ODOS marketing assistant to create and distribute marketing materials for Wolverine Essentials.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of WE programs including some evening or weekend activities.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking to improve practices and processes in Wolverine Essentials.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Enrolled at least part-time as a UM-Flint student
  • Ability to speak publicly and represent Wolverine Essentials in a positive light
  • High level of interpersonal skills: can listen effectively and interact with people appropriately and professionally
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Available to work some nights and weekends
  • Must be able to attend August staff training (dates and times to be announced)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Desired Qualifications*

  • Preference will be given to those candidates who will be enrolled through the W27 semester
  • Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated leadership in student organizations
  • Federal Work Study preferred
  • Ability to communicate and work with diverse constituents

Modes of Work

Onsite

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
