The (SRC) Director's Office (SRC DO) Services, Training, Administration and Research Team (START) members provide support as needed to the research programs and faculty within SRC. You can find more information about the programs and faculty the START team is currently supporting here.

Associate-level Research Administrators will work closely with and under the mentorship of highly skilled research administrators throughout SRC. Professional development opportunities and advancement in the research administration career path is a focus of these positions. 

Responsibilities*

What You'll Do

If you join SRC, you will become an integral part of a high functioning network of professional research administrators with broad responsibilities, expectations, and opportunities in support of the center's overall research enterprise and its research faculty. Based on the best match with your qualifications and interests, responsibilities may include (position dependent):

Grant Application (Pre-Award Activities) 

  • Coordinate and communicate proposal timelines to project teams while helping organize the submission process through the university's eResearch proposal management system (eRPM)

  • Help with preparation and development of proposal budgets, first stage budget justifications and other pre-award related documents such as facilities, SciENcv common form biosketches/other supports and subaward packages

  • Interpret guidelines to ensure compliance with sponsor, ISR, SRC and university guidelines

  • Prepare Just in Time documentation and other sponsored requests.

  • Submit and process Low Indirect Cost requests.

Awarded Grant (Post-Award) Project Administration and Financial Management:

  • Reconcile assigned accounts (sponsored and non-sponsored) monthly for accuracy, allowability and to ensure compliance with SRC, U-M, and sponsor guidelines. Work with faculty and other administrators to investigate and resolve issues

  • Help prepare monthly faculty effort spreadsheets to track project commitments across time.

  • Interpret guidelines to ensure compliance with sponsor, ISR, SRC and university guidelines

  • Help prepare materials for annual sponsor project reports such as Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR) and other reporting requirements

  • Prepare and process Emburse expense reports and related expense documentation in accordance with university and sponsor policies. 

  • Other post-award responsibilities including: set-up new sponsored projects, request sub-accounts, prepare and submit award change requests, complete uniform guidance annual reports, complete budget allocations, initiate and manage subcontracts, and complete the closeout of sponsored projects.

 

Compliance:

  • Assist with the creation and management of Unfunded Agreements/Data Use Agreements (UFA/DUA) in eResearch.

  • Attend SRC and ISR research administration meetings and trainings to remain current on issues affecting proposal preparation, changes in UM policy and procedures, and financial and administrative reporting. Represent the START team / SRC on committees and in meetings with other administrators.

Required Qualifications*

We'd like to hear from you if you have: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Up to 3 years of grant and contract experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.

  • Experience with Google suite products and communication applications such as Zoom.

  • Experience with business tools such as Travel and Expense reporting, and other administrative systems.

  • Administrative support experience.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Locations

You'll work on-site at the University of Michigan, Institute of Social Research, Survey Research Center in Ann Arbor. We offer flexibility for hybrid work within our overall Center guidelines. Flexible work guidelines for this SRC Director's Office position is 100% in-office for the onboarding period. After completing the onboarding period, the guidelines are 80% onsite (4 days) and 20% remote (1 day).
