Responsibilities*

Please note, this position primarily focuses on supporting the Pediatric Suite but may be asked to support other areas as needed.

Our Pediatric Specialty Medical Assistants are essential for the care of our patients. We are searching for someone who has a passion for caring for others. In this role you will perform patient intake, patient preparation for procedures, and medication administration. You will also take vital signs, review and update patient information, administer injections, perform EKGs, collect specimens, sterilize and clean equipment, stock supplies, and set up instruments and supplies in exam and treatment rooms.

 Below is a list of the current service lines within the Pediatric Specialty Suite. You will be trained to support all of them.

  • Hepatology
  • Neurology
  • OB/GYN
  • Pulmonary
  • Rheumatology
  • Sleep Clinic
  • Urology

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 - 3 years).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care, and basic medical terminology.

 

Desired Qualifications*

 

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or (RMA).

  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. 
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

The facility is open 7:00 AM ? 7:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 8:00AM ? 4:00PM on Saturday. We are flexible in scheduling, and request that you are also flexible in working various shifts.

You will be trained on site by one of our tenured Medical Assistants.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
