Job Summary

The Research Assistant will support an eHealth research study through patient recruitment, survey distribution, patient interviews, and data collection. Responsibilities include abstracting relevant information from the electronic health record, organizing study data, coding interview transcripts, and entering data into a REDCap database. This position offers hands-on experience with the eHealth research process, including clinical data management, qualitative research methods, and patient-centered research activities.

Responsibilities*

In this role, responsibilities include supporting the eHealth research process through patient recruitment, survey distribution, and patient interviews. The position involves collecting, organizing, and managing research data, including abstracting relevant information from the electronic medical record and entering data into a REDCap database. Additional duties include coding interview transcripts and assisting with data organization to support study goals. Through these tasks, the role provides hands-on experience with clinical research methods, patient-centered research, and the overall process of conducting eHealth research.
 

Required Qualifications*

Required qualifications include experience working with electronic health records (EHR), including reviewing patient charts, abstracting relevant clinical data, and maintaining accuracy and confidentiality when handling patient information.

Desired Qualifications*

Desired qualifications include being a medical student or gap year student with an interest in clinical, patient-centered, or eHealth research. Prior experience with manuscript writing and preparation is preferred, including familiarity with literature reviews, drafting research sections, editing, formatting references, or preparing materials for submission. Candidates should be detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with patient data, survey tools, and REDCap. Strong communication skills are also desired, particularly for patient recruitment, interviewing, and collaborating with the research team. Familiarity with qualitative coding, transcript review, or data abstraction is a plus.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
