Job Summary

This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. The work will be performed in the Laboratory of Vascular Defense and Discovery under the Direction of Dr. David J. Pinsky, M.D. This laboratory is located on the 7th floor of the MSRBIII building. Members of the team include other faculty, a lab manager, a handful of other staff, and trainees at various levels.

Responsibilities*

  • The selected applicant will operate with considerable latitude under the immediate supervision of the lab manager and faculty leaders in Vascular defense and Discovery. 
  • This includes direct work within the lab and also with approved collaborations. 
  • There will be a concomitant effort at training individuals at various levels- from premedical students to postdoctoral trainees- in various techniques with which the applicant is expert and also deploying these techniques to advance the subject research in the general area of cardiovascular, immune, and thrombosis biology. 
  • The selectee will perform his/her own experiments independently, including accurate record keeping and data analysis, and assist with the preparation of manuscripts for publication as well as grant applications for peer-review. 
  • The selectee will also be charged with evaluating equipment and supply needs, breed, maintain and genotype colonies of mice relevant to the work, and be fully versed and compliant with animal welfare regulations. 
  • The selectee may also help in IACUC and EHS and DEA regulatory reviews and protocol development. Independent decisions on matters of significance are included in these duties, especially those related to the design, redesign, troubleshooting, and implementation of experiments. 
  • Monitoring of laboratory expenses related to the selectee's work will also be required.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
  • 5 to 6 years related experience. 
  • Supervisory and financial management experience required.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree with 5 to 6 years related experience
  • Significant experience in teaching/mentoring in the laboratory environment
  • Significant experience in handling experimental animals (including microsurgery)
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot experiments independently
  • Extensive knowledge of laboratory regulatory environment including animal protocol preparation/compliance, EHS standards, DEA regulations
  • Ability to function as a team player
  • Particular knowledge of neuro-immunology and vascular biology would be strong desired attributes
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. Experience in grant writing is a plus.
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze data, and review literature
  • Impeccable record-keeping

Background Screening
