Responsibilities*

  • Designs research projects and experiments on the cell biology of RNA virus infection, in
    collaboration with the principal investigator
  • Independently performs experiments using standard molecular biology, virology, and cell
    biology techniques
  • Interprets the results of experiments and modifies subsequent experiments and strategy, in
    collaboration with the principal investigator when needed
  • Writes manuscripts for publications, prepares figures for grant submissions, and presents
    laboratory data at group meetings
  • Collaborates with research personnel within the laboratory and with other laboratories on
    research projects.
  • Supervises a research technician and/or undergraduate researchers
  • Organizes laboratory inventories (e.g. plasmids, cell lines, antibodies, viral stocks)
  • Keeps track of commonly used items and ordering supplies for the laboratory
  • Maintains overall laboratory organization and cleanliness.
  • Writes, revises, and implements standard operating procedures for laboratory equipment,
    chemicals and research protocols with supervision from principal investigator

Required Qualifications*

  • Masters degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required.
  • 5-6 years of related experience is required.
  • Supervisory and financial management experience required.

 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Doctorate degree preferred

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
