Job Summary

The Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (CDB) at the University of Michigan Medical School (Ann Arbor) seeks a highly motivated individual to work as a Research Laboratory Technician Intermediate or Associate. The successful candidate will assist in managing day-to-day lab operations while participating in exciting research on the cell biology of virus infection. Prior lab experience in molecular biology techniques (PCR, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, etc.) is preferred. The candidate will be expected to make basic lab solutions and reagents and will have the opportunity to contribute to establishing new research directions in the lab. In addition, the candidate will order and maintain sufficient lab supplies to ensure that all experiments conducted in the lab are efficiently executed. Good organizational and communication skills and the ability to work as a part of a team are required.

Responsibilities*

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to: 

  • Assisting in collection of preliminary data for an NIH-funded research project 
  • Making basic lab solutions and reagents 
  • Ordering lab supplies and maintaining lab stocks and databases 
  • Training new lab members 
     

Required Qualifications*

Research Lab Tech Associate: HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 0-1 year experience is required. A Bachelor's Degree in a Basic Science or related field is preferred. 

Research Lab Tech Intermediate: HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 1-3 year's experience is required. A Bachelor's Degree in a Basic Science or related field is preferred. 

  • The candidate should possess a strong work ethic, good organizational skills and a willingness to learn new procedures and methods. 

  • Must be able to work effectively in a team setting and be able to communicate their findings through written and oral presentation.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a Basic Science or related field is preferred.
