Job Summary

The RL System Administrator serves as the primary system administrator for the RLDatix patient safety reporting system for the Academic Medical Center (AMC). This role is responsible for maintaining system functionality, supporting end users, and ensuring data integrity across patient safety event reporting workflows. The position focuses on system configuration, user support, and operational reliability, while partnering directly with the software vendor and internal stakeholders. The System Administrator leads user testing, upgrades, downtime processes, IA activities, and improvement efforts independently for the software system. This position supports AMC technical configuration and alignment across the UMH enterprise and participates in governance processes to prioritize and implement change requests.

This role reports to the Patient Safety Officer with direction from the Director of Patient Safety. Works closely with stakeholders across Clinical Risk, Patient Safety, Medication Safety, and regional RL system partners.

Responsibilities*

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • At least 5 years of experience with healthcare IT systems or application support (RL6/RL Risk and Safety preferred)

  • Experience supporting enterprise software systems including upgrades

  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to interact effectively with technical staff and vendors

  • Ability to reliably attend virtual meetings

Responsibilities*

60% - RL System Administration 

  • Administer and maintain RLDatix RL6 system configuration to support patient safety reporting workflows across hospitals and clinics 
  • Serve as first-line support for end users, troubleshooting system issues and escalating as needed 
  • Manage user access, roles, permissions, and alerts 
  • Maintain forms, General Event Types (GETs), and lookup tables 
  • Support change management for system updates, including documentation and coordination 
  • Perform testing for upgrades, enhancements, and configuration changes 
  • Monitor and resolve data quality issues such as incomplete and duplicate reports 
  • Develop and maintain standard reports within RL6 for both operational purposes and users 
  • Create and maintain training materials and deliver end-user training 
  • Coordinate vendor upgrades, releases, and downtime procedures 
  • Participate in RLDatix user community and stay current with system capabilities 
  • Support RL6 governance structures by tracking requests and decisions 
  • Perform operational analyses to identify change opportunities and improve efficiency 
  • Coordinate with HITS and partners to ensure system reliability and IT compliance 
  • Assist with implementation activities including testing and training 
  • Support Information Assurance (IA) requirements 
  • Maintain awareness of workflows to ensure system alignment with operational needs 

 

35% - Application Alignment and Advancement 

  • Support additional alignment with safety-related applications outside of the Office of Patient Safety, such as campus or risk systems 
  • Builds consensus on customizations for alignment of documentation through governance structures 
  • Participates in planning, change management and implementation of RL Risk & Safety platform or other chosen reporting system
  • Manages change in RL reporting system with responsibility to prioritize requests and inform stakeholders of system impacts based on direction of SMEs across the enterprise 
  • Participates in collaboration and consensus on technical build across the enterprise

 

5% - Other Duties

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
