Job Summary
The Residential College Spanish Program https://lsa.umich.edu/rc is seeking to hire an Intermittent Lecturer to teach one section of Spanish 154 for the Fall 2026 semester.
The Spanish program at the Residential College (RC) seeks applicants for an Intermittent Lecturer position for Fall Term 2026. Responsibilities include leading one section in Pre-Intensive I Spanish, (RCLANG 154). This course is designed for students with limited to no background in Spanish. It provides foundational instruction in language acquisition strategies, grammatical structures and verb morphology. Students apply these concepts to a range of in-class speaking, listening, reading and writing activities in real-life contexts and small groups. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to comprehend brief oral passages and level-appropriate journalistic prose, sustain a basic conversation with a native speaker and write simply and effectively about self, family, academic life and interests of general interest.
Responsibilities*
The instructor works in a team under the coordinator's supervision, and attendance at program meetings is expected. Two office hours per week per class and participation in co-curricular activities are required. Instructor provides written assessment of individual students at midterm and the end of the semester. Training and participation in proficiency examinations at the end of August and end of the term in December is also expected.
Required Qualifications*
Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and prior familiarity or teaching experience in intensive language programs is desirable. Minimum requirement: Bachelors degree

Preferred: Masters or PhD.

Lecturer Compensation
For Fall 2026, 33.33% appointment to teach one course in RCLANG 154.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
