Job Summary

The Organizational Studies Program in the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts invites applications for a Lecturer I position at 50% effort for the Fall term 2026. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026 and end on December 31, 2026.

Responsibilities*

The lecturer will have primary responsibility for their discussion sections, which will include a mix of structured exercises designed by the instructor and discussions. The lecturer will have primary responsibility for grading, in consultation with the lead instructor, and will meet as necessary during the semester. The lecturer will also be responsible for maintaining and updating grade sheets and other records.  It is anticipated that the responsibilities will average 16.5-20 hours per week for a .50 FTE. This includes developing course materials, teaching, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours.

Anticipated Discussion Schedule: Discussions Th 4-5pm, Fri 9-10am, 10-11am

Leadership and Collaboration (OS 201) is a highly-interactive course that leverages a strong foundation in the social sciences to explore what good leadership is and how people can be effective leaders even when they lack formal authority. This course satisfies the LSA Social Science Distribution requirement, and students should develop a coherent view of essential concepts, structures, and intellectual methods that typify social science disciplines. The course is capped at 75 students, and has discussion sections led by a graduate student instructor or lecturer (in a separate role). The course meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 4-5:30pm and three discussion sections.

The Organizational Studies Program is an interdisciplinary major built on a foundation of three disciplines?sociology, psychology, and economics?that examines the behavior, structure, and dynamics of organizations. OS 201 is taken primarily by first- and second-year students and is a pipeline into the major.
 

Required Qualifications*

Completed Masters or PhD in a relevant social science or professional field. Must have subject matter expertise and demonstrated success in the undergraduate classroom. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

Desired Qualifications*

Demonstrated success in creating an engaging, interactive environment in a class of similar or larger size. Academic background in organizational behavior or organizational theory. Supervisory experience.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
