Job Summary
The Ross IT Department provides the Michigan Ross community with a comprehensive suite of technologies, web-based business solutions, and support to help our shared instructional, research, administrative, and service missions.
The Business Systems Analyst serves as the primary liaison between partners and technical teams, implementing technology solutions that improve business operations and customer experiences. This position partners with departments across the Ross School of Business to understand challenges, analyze processes, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency through technology, automation, data, analytics, and new solutions. The Business Systems Analyst guides technology projects from concept through implementation. You will work with application developers, project managers, architects, security teams, and University partners to provide secure and sustainable solutions that align with institutional priorities. You will report to the Director of Application Services.
This hybrid position is based in Ann Arbor, MI, with an expectation of three days per week on-site. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain that authorization throughout employment.

Responsibilities*
Project Requirements Gathering, Data Analysis, and Project Management - 70%
- Partner with stakeholders and end-users to define goals, operational challenges, requirements, and opportunities involving AI, automation, analytics, and latest technologies.
- Lead discovery sessions, interviews, workshops, and process-mapping activities; analyze current and future-state processes, root causes, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Develop project briefs, business cases, user stories, process flows, functional and prompt requirements, AI evaluation criteria, acceptance criteria, and related business analysis deliverables.
- Collaborate with project managers and technical teams to evaluate solutions, define scope and milestones, validate functionality, and recommend approaches that balance value, feasibility, cost, and risk.
- Develop and coordinate user acceptance testing, including validating AI-generated outputs, documenting defects, and confirming solutions meet requirements and quality standards.
- Analyze operational data, solution performance, and outcomes to assess effectiveness and support data-informed decisions.
Process Improvement and Documentation - 20%
- Evaluate AI and automation opportunities for feasibility, value, data readiness, privacy, security, accessibility, and institutional compliance.
- Support implementation through change communications, training, documentation, post-implementation reviews, and lessons learned.
Training and Skills Development - 10%
- Maintain expertise in business analysis, AI, prompt engineering, automation, and related practices; educate partners, share knowledge, and contribute to governance, standards, reusable resources, and cross-functional projects.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in business analysis, requirements gathering, process analysis, and technology solution design, including facilitating discovery sessions and stakeholder workshops.
- Experience documenting requirements using methods such as user stories, use cases, process flows, wireframes, business rules, functional specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Knowledge of business analysis, process improvement, project management, Agile methodologies, and software development life cycle practices.
- Analytical skills with the ability to evaluate business needs and recommend practical technology solutions aligned with organizational goals.
- Proficiency with productivity, collaboration, process-modeling, and work-management tools such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Lucidchart, Visio, Jira, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience communicating complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional Information
Salary Information:
The salary offer range for this position is $68,500 to $88,300. Salary offers are determined based on several factors, including a candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications, along with internal equity considerations. It is not common for new hires to be placed at the top of the range.
