Job Summary

Your core responsibilities will focus on implementing targeted recruitment strategies and working directly with prospective transfer students-both one-on-one and in group settings-to guide them through exploring, applying to, and enrolling at U-M. You will focus on expanding access for students from historically underrepresented or non-traditional backgrounds, including low-income students, first generation college students, military veterans, community college students, student-parents, and students with a variety of other identities.

This role requires overnight travel and occasional evening and weekend hours. Employees in the position have the option of working a hybrid schedule of days on campus in Ann Arbor and working remotely.

This position is in the Office of Student Recruitment, which reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education. Our department is a dynamic, friendly work environment that values innovation and collaboration. You will report to the Associate Director.

Responsibilities*

1. Student Advising (40%)

  • Deliver personalized, multi-channel advising (in-person, virtual, phone, and email) to guide prospective transfer students through the transfer process from exploration, application, and admissions.
  • Generate and regularly update "Progress to Degree" reports to provide pre-transfer applicants with clear academic roadmaps.
  • Connect prospective and newly admitted students to key campus partners, including Financial Aid, Disability Services, Career Planning, and Advising.
  • Maintain accurate, timely CRM records for prospects, applicants, event attendance, and recruitment outreach.

2. Recruitment, Outreach, and Strategic Partnerships (40%)

  • Represent LSA at community college visits, transfer fairs, and regional recruitment events as assigned.
  • Expand the transfer pipeline by cultivating strong collaborative relationships with community college faculty and staff.
  • Independently manage travel logistics, including coordinating, booking, and scheduling all off-campus community college visits and recruitment events.
  • Present the holistic value of a U-M liberal arts education to prospective students, families, and external advisors.

3. Event Planning and Participation (15%)

  • Plan, execute, and evaluate on- and off-campus events, including U-M visits and community college programming, to support transfer recruitment and yield.
  • Participate in on-campus recruitment events as assigned.
  • Partner with other members of the recruitment team to implement yield and enrollment strategies, including participation in Transfer Student Days.

4. Professional Development (5%)

  • Proactively maintain subject-matter expertise on LSA academic departments, degree programs, and institutional transfer policies.
  • Maintain expertise in Michigan's transfer landscape, focusing closely on partner policies within assigned community colleges.
  • Attend on-campus and off-campus professional development opportunities when approved.

Required Qualifications*

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (Liberal Arts & Sciences preferred).
  • Experience: 6+ months of experience in college recruitment, higher education admissions, or a closely related field.
  • Events & Speaking: Proven ability to plan events and deliver engaging group presentations.
  • Operations: Strong administrative, project management, and prioritization skills with an emphasis on responsiveness and attention to detail.
  • Service & Flexibility: Passion for high-quality student service; willing and able to travel overnight and work flexible evening/weekend hours.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree specifically in a Liberal Arts field.
  • Experience as a transfer student or direct experience advising/supporting transfer populations.
  • Hands-on experience using Salesforce or similar CRM tools.
