Job Summary
The School of Public Health is looking for a collaborative Human Resources (HR) Generalist to join our school human resources team, providing proactive support and service to our faculty, staff, and student employees. Reporting to the HR and Project Manager, you will help facilitate a seamless employee experience by supporting key processes across the full employee life cycle, including recruitment, onboarding, compensation, and offboarding. You will also help monitor compliance with federal and state regulations and School of Public Health and University of Michigan policies.
Responsibilities*
- Provide support for hiring and maintenance of temporary, regular and graduate student appointments within the school, including preparing job descriptions, posting positions, visa processing and tracking, onboarding/offboarding employees, and appointment or salary changes. Maintain awareness of relevant labor agreements.
- Support faculty affairs projects and processing.
- Assist with special projects across the HR team including monitoring compliance with school and University regulations, including I-9 guidance, mandatory training, covered visitors, and effort certification, escalating issues as needed.
- Collaborate in documenting HR policies and procedures for communication to the School of Public Health community.
- Improve processes, maintain records and update tracking systems.
- Collect and summarize HR data.
- Prepare communications for faculty, staff and students.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree and at least two years of human resources experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with data entry and generating reports from an HR Information system such as PeopleSoft.
- Expert proficiency with Word, Excel, and Google Suite products.
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service to diverse populations.
- Experience dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
Modes of Work
This is a hybrid role, with 3 days per week working on-site and 2 days per week from home. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work are at the discretion of the hiring department.
