Job Summary
Logistics, Transportation & Parking has an opening for Custodian II. This is a bargained-for (AFSCME) position.
This position requires working in air conditioned and non-air conditioned spaces.
Responsibilities*
- Clean assigned work areas including restrooms, grounds, and public areas. Areas to be cleaned may be located high off the floor, close to ground, and around immovable objects.
- Operate custodial equipment including, wet and dry vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, floor scrubbers, and power washers.
- Spot wash walls, doors, windows, and mirrors. This includes areas that are located high off the floor and close to the ground.
- Dust light fixtures, vents, vertical surfaces, and wash windows. This includes areas that are located high off the floor and close to the ground
- Empty trash containers of varying weights, but can sometimes weigh up to 50lbs.
- Sweep and Wet mop floors and stairways; move and arrange furniture and furnishings which can weigh up to 50lbs; and other related duties.
- Report items in need of repair.
- Remove snow and ice from entry ways.
Required Qualifications*
- Must have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in various formats and be able to follow instructions.
- Must have a positive attitude with good customer relation skills.
- Must be able to prioritize work.
- Ability to meet the requirements of operating a UM vehicle.
Work Schedule
Hours/Week - 40
Work Shift/Hours/Days - Wednesday - Sunday 6:30 am - 2:30 pm
Salary Range - $18.69-$19.31/hour*
*There is a 90 day probationary period for new AFSCME hires. During this time, a probationary hourly pay rate may apply.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
