Job Summary
The person in this role will assist with teaching courses, including occasionally leading lectures and in-class discussions. The class meets once per week on Tuesdays from 1:30pm-4:30pm. The role also involves managing the Canvas site, updating the syllabus, preparing handouts for in-class activities, and co-grading assignments with the course instructor. Ideally, the candidate should have some familiarity with information behavior.
Responsibilities*
Instructional Aide (Eligibility: Undergraduate Students, Non-Students)
- Assist in teaching courses
- Preparing instructional materials
- Managing Canvas site
- Give laboratory or clinical demonstrations
- Prepare, administer, and grade subjective and objective examinations and assignments
- Lecture and lead laboratory and recitation sections.
- May interact with students regarding course content or grades
Required Qualifications*
- Undergraduate in good academic standing with knowledge of the subject matter.
OR Non-UM Student with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in information technology
- 1+ years of experience in an administrative or program support role, especially in higher education.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside regular business hours to support events.
- Must have a basic understanding of web accessibility guidelines.
Course Description
This course surveys major theories and research on information behavior?how people recognize needs and seek, share, avoid, interpret, and use information?and how these practices are shaped by cognitive, social, cultural, and technological factors. Students examine information behavior across everyday life, organizations, and digital platforms, with attention to social media, algorithmic systems, misinformation, and generative AI. The course emphasizes applying research insights to design inclusive, ethical, and effective services and systems in libraries, archives, and other knowledge environments.
