Job Summary
We are seeking an instructor/research assistant to help us implement a research study being conducted from October to December 2026 in a local high school health class. This study will examine the effectiveness of a health decisions curriculum designed for high school students at Mott Middle College (located at Mott Community College). The curriculum emphasizes scientific reasoning and informational text reading comprehension skills. The research assistant will be the head instructor of the curriculum, assist with data collection in the classroom, and potentially assist with data analysis.
Responsibilities*
The instructor/research assistant will work closely with Dr. Audrey Michal to teach a health decisions curriculum in a high school health classroom at Mott Middle College, collect data in the classroom (e.g., surveys, reading comprehension performance, and health decision performance), and analyze the collected data. All curricular materials and lesson plans will be provided.
Specific duties include:
- Instruct a 7-week health decisions curriculum during two sections each of high school health classes at Mott Middle College during the Fall 2026 semester (October - December 2026)
- Oversee all in-class student activities associated with the curriculum
- Assist with three sessions of data collection (e.g., collecting forms, helping students navigate online surveys)
- Assist with analyzing open-ended response data (coding qualitative data)
Required Qualifications*
- The candidate must be a current undergraduate student at UM-Flint.
- The candidate should have a background in psychology or education.
- Work experience in a K-12 school environment is preferred.
Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Work Schedule
The candidate will be expected to teach a 7-week curriculum at Mott Middle College, beginning October 26, 2026, and ending December 18, 2026. The candidate will be instructing high school students during two 50-minute classes, 5 days per week. The first class is held at 8:35-9:20 am, and the second class is held at 2:45-3:30 pm.
