Job Summary
The Truttmann laboratory at the University of Michigan seeks to hire a postdoctoral research fellow to join the team. The lab is interested in ER proteostasis regulation in aging and aging-associated diseases. We use a combination of models (e.g. C. elegans, mouse, iPSCs) and techniques (e.g. gene editing, nanobody generation, small molecule screens) to identify, assess, and target novel mechanisms to mitigate aging-associated protein misfolding. Our current main focus is to study the human AMPylase, FICD, in the context of distinct protein misfolding diseases. For more information visit https://truttmann.lab.medicine.umich.edu/.

What You'll Do
- Design experiments
- Direct data generation and analysis
- Apply for independent funding (with PI support)
- Write research manuscripts and reviews (with PI input)
- Present experimental results internally and at scientific meetings
- Train new lab members in routine experimental procedures
- Mentor and provide leadership to other lab members including graduate students, undergraduate students, and staff technicians

Required Qualifications*
- PhD in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, or related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment
- Basic molecular biology expertise and familiarity with imaging microscopy techniques
- Previous experience working with animal and/or cell-based experimental models
- Previous first author publication(s)
- Strong letters of support from at least one mentor and one mentee

- Previous experience using C.elegans, iPSCs, and/or murine models to study proteostasis
- Clear career vision with a distinct plan for what skills and data they would like to acquire during this fellowship
Background Screening
