Job Summary
The Inclusive History Project (IHP) on the Flint campus is looking for driven individuals to contribute to our research into the diverse histories of the university community.
Position Overview: We are seeking enthusiastic candidates to join the IHP team at UM-Flint. In this role, you'll work closely with the IHP Director of Research, Dr. Lisa M. Lapeyrouse, and the IHP Program Coordinator, Jacob Jones, on a variety of innovative IHP research initiatives focused on the University of Michigan in the Middle East Project (U-M in the ME). The ideal candidate has demonstrated historical research experience and a working knowledge of local Middle Eastern culture, history, and socio-political life.
Required Qualifications*
- The minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree in History or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team
- At least 1 year of demonstrated experience performing in-person archival research
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Personal transportation and ability to work in-person on the UM-Flint campus and surrounding community, some travel to Dearborn and Ann Arbor may be required
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree in History or related field.
- Demonstrated experience on the UM-Flint campus or in the Flint area, working with a broad range of community members and supporting projects with a community engagement focus.
- Demonstrated experience working to support an academic research project e.g., grant writing, IRB approval processes, manuscript development and publication.
- Knowledge of or experience with the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS), Omeka S, and/or WordPress
- Demonstrated research expertise in Middle East and Middle Eastern Diaspora Studies
- Past experience conducting archival research
- Experience collecting, cleaning, coding, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.
- Familiarity with local Middle Eastern culture, history, and socio-political life
- Fluency in Arabic
Modes of Work
Hybrid
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
