Job Summary
The Office of Budget and Planning (OBP) is seeking a recent undergraduate to serve as a Budget Intern who will provide financial support to our office.
OBP supports talent and professional development by providing hands-on experience for individuals interested in higher education finance, budgeting, and institutional stewardship. This role offers an enriching experience involving several facets of central university operations, with the goal of developing foundational financial capabilities, organizational acumen, and a deep knowledge of resource planning in higher education. Responsibilities and tasks are dynamic in nature, aligned with office priorities and candidate strengths, ensuring exposure to diverse financial, analytical, and administrative support functions. In addition to daily financial processing and reconciliation, team members have the opportunity to engage with central campus partners, contribute to routine reporting, and support core institutional planning activities.
This is a temporary position with an anticipated duration of up to six months, with the possibility of extension based on business needs. The anticipated work schedule for this position is up to 40 hours/week.
Responsibilities*
- Process and reconcile financial transactions, including journal entries, purchase requisitions, and invoices
- Prepare, verify, and maintain accurate financial records, files, and supporting documentation
- Assist with budget data entry, monitoring, and financial reporting for OBP and partner units
- Run routine financial reports, review data, and flag discrepancies for follow-up
- Respond to inquiries from campus partners regarding financial processes and transactions
- Support cross-functional financial projects and general office operations.
- Maintain compliance with university financial policies, internal controls, and confidentiality standards
Required Qualifications*
- Recent graduate from a Bachelor's degree program with a concentration in accounting, finance, business, economics, or a related field. Students graduating from other Bachelor's programs with a strong interest in finance, budget and/or higher education are also encouraged to apply
- 0-2 years of professional experience or an equivalent combination
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience with accounting, bookkeeping, or other financial support work
- Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numerical data
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and handle confidential information with discretion
- Resourceful and driven to achieve quality results
