Job Summary

The laboratory studies the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer, with a particular focus on host?microbe interactions. The candidate will support ongoing research aimed at understanding how microbial and immune factors contribute to intestinal inflammation, disease progression, and cancer development. The position involves both immunology- and microbiology-based research approaches, including the use of mouse models, and requires active participation in experimental design, execution, data evaluation, and interpretation

Responsibilities*

The candidate will have an active role in the design, execution, and evaluation of laboratory research studies focused on host-microbe interactions in gastrointestinal disease. Responsibilities include conducting immunology and microbiology experiments; performing studies using mouse models; collecting, organizing, and analyzing experimental data; evaluating research outcomes; troubleshooting experimental procedures; and contributing to the optimization and development of laboratory protocols. The candidate will maintain accurate and detailed experimental records and will assist with the organization and maintenance of laboratory research materials, reagents, cultures, samples, and equipment as needed. The individual will also participate in laboratory meetings and scientific discussions. An important component of the position is training and supporting new laboratory members. The candidate will teach experimental techniques, laboratory procedures, and appropriate research practices to new staff, students, and trainees and will provide guidance in the proper execution of established protocols.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelors degree
  • 4-5 years of experience in related field
  • Relevant academic or laboratory training in biomedical science or a related discipline is required
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student work experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters or Doctoral degree preferred.  
  • Previous research experience in biomedical research (e.g., immunology, microbiology, cell biology, animal disease models) is preferred.
  • Experience conducting laboratory experiments independently and contributing to experimental design, troubleshooting, data analysis, and interpretation is desirable.

Additional Information

This position is primarily laboratory-based and requires onsite work to conduct experimental studies, maintain research activities, and support animal-based research. The position involves work with mouse models and may involve biological materials and microorganisms under applicable institutional laboratory safety requirements.

Background Screening
