Responsibilities*

Responsible for providing leadership and professional expertise for UMH Capacity Management through leveraging the knowledge and skills of others; leads one of three Capacity Management teams which participates in the coordination of patient admissions, patient placement, bed management and throughput activities on a shift-by-shift basis in order to timely and safely complete all system wide capacity management activities. 

Incumbent manages the Admission Triage Associate (ATA) team, one of four personnel teams within the department, is cross trained to be able to manage all teams and the associated workflows to implement the overall strategies and achieve the goals of the Capacity Management department.  The scope of the Administrative Manager Sr. role will range from managing daily operations of the four Capacity Management teams to recommending the strategic direction and providing leadership in the operational changes for the Capacity Management Department. Facilitates resolution of patient placement conflicts that arise between and among departments and patient care areas both in real time and through strategic planning to efficiently, safely and timely complete patient admissions, transfers and bed placement.

Incumbent is directly responsible for the Capacity Management ATA team for all subordinate staff activities related to human resource management.  Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting their rates of pay and hours of work; monthly scheduling, planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary. Management responsibilities include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight.

Manages the administrative and operational objectives for the Capacity Management Department; Incumbent has measurable impact on capacity management operational effectiveness, decision making around strategic initiatives, attainment of department/unit objectives, strategic service decisions related to internal and external customers and attainment of capacity management goals.   Incumbent has impact on strategic budgeting, controlling personnel costs, planning, and capacity management workflow and procedural changes. 

Works closely and effectively with UMH leadership and Faculty leadership aligned with the assigned specific Capacity Management Team and related workflows.  The ATA Administrative Manager serves as the Capacity Management Department liaison and resource for, but not limited to, workflows related to HITS, including devices and equipment, the Environmental Services Department (EVS), the Capacity Management analytic board, and workflows related to daily bed briefings.  

Required Qualifications*

This position is a senior manager for the Capacity Management Department and reports to the Capacity Management Administrative Director.  Decisions, work results and recommendations significantly impact others within the department. Bachelor's or Master's degree and considerable professional experience with directly relevant prior capacity management, and supervisory or team leader experience is required. 

Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.

A Bachelor's Degree in a health discipline (such as Nursing, Social Work, Respiratory Therapy), health care administration or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.  Minimum three years experience in capacity management workflows is necessary.  Extensive experience managing staff and services.  Substantial years of demonstrated successful leadership, ability to integrate UMHS services, departments and segments, administer and manage change

Supervision received:

Direction is received from the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Capacity Management and the Capacity Management Administrative Director, with a direct reporting relationship to the Capacity Management Administrative Director
