BI Production Solutions Architect

The Michigan Medicine Financial Systems team provides the leadership, oversight, and technical support for the suite of financial products, applications, and datasets used by the Finance Organization of Michigan Medicine for financial reporting, planning, analytics, and decision-making. The team is responsible for delivering on-time enterprise-level reporting and business intelligence systems, managing concurrent high-visibility projects to support new initiatives, guiding data stewardship, and informing and supporting institutional enterprise objectives.

The Financial Systems Production team focuses on administration and end-user support to deliver on-time production systems, ensuring high data quality and exceptional business value to our stakeholders. Responsibilities include all aspects of administering enterprise-level reporting solutions.

The BI Solutions Architect's primary focus is on the production administration of the BI solutions the team manages and all underlying data sources and processes to support it. The role is responsible for providing timely, accessible, and accurate data according to the Finance department's defined timelines.

This role is responsible for designing and administering enterprise-level reporting solutions, integrating cloud-hosted reporting applications, data warehouse and critical organizational business processes, with a focus on the Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) suite of tools. This position is responsible for analyzing and translating business, information, and technical requirements into enterprise-level reporting solutions. This role is responsible for researching and maintaining knowledge of current and emerging technologies to solve business problems, particularly with a focus on cloud-hosted solutions. Actively participating in problem-solving and developing integrated solutions within a complex, varied, and evolving technical landscape will be an essential part of this position. This role will also propose changes in processes, policies, standards, applications, and data model designs to peers and leadership. In addition, this position will partner with key stakeholders and leadership in requirements gathering and solution design, as well as work with vendor technical teams, enterprise architecture, application, and infrastructure teams to deliver enterprise reporting solutions.

The BI Solutions Architect must possess strong technical knowledge and experience with relational database models, SQL, and multiple Oracle technologies, including Oracle Cloud Analytics and Cloud EPM applications. A deep understanding of finance, accounting, and healthcare business practices is also required.

Responsibilities*

Role and Responsibilities:

Technical Programming and Application Administration of Production Systems - 50%

Primary responsibility for the full application life cycle of all production systems and datasets for Finance BI (Oracle Cloud Analytics application used for decision support across Michigan Medicine Finance).

  • Responsible for the administration and maintenance of data models within our relational data warehouse.
  • Secondary responsibility for the full application life cycle of all production systems and datasets for multiple Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud Applications.
  • Function as a technical backup for production Application Programmer teammates.
  • Administration of enterprise-level reporting solutions that integrate our cloud-hosted reporting applications and data warehouses.
  • Responsible for administration of reporting landscapes that are complex and varied in nature.
  • Administer the integration of new and modified ETL processes with other Financial System processes with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and automation.
  • Possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of Financial Systems datasets.
  • Collaborate with vendor technical teams, internal enterprise architecture, and application infrastructure teams to resolve technical issues and understand system dependencies and compatibility.
  • Partner with data source owners for any necessary data exchanges - this includes working with them to proactively assess potential risks / changes affecting our systems and developing action plans to manage these changes appropriately.
  • Lead review of system release notes, define system impacts, plan regression testing, and any remediation needed.
  • Continuously work to identify and implement improvement efforts to enhance data quality, ease of administration, end users experience, and efficiency.

Documentation, Validation and Governance - 40%

  • Prepares and conducts comprehensive testing and validation procedures.
  • Full integration of new processes into documentation and training.
  • Continuously review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end validation processes, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Manage the inventory of system documentation and instructions using searchable dynamic solutions.
  • Maintain training and end-user documentation.
  • Maintain and periodic scheduled testing of full application disaster recovery process across all production systems.
  • Create and maintain Data Governance documentation, including but not limited to:

Ad Hoc - 10%

  • Items may include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting peer and end-user training
  • Support special projects within Financial Systems as well as Michigan Medicine Finance
  • Support compliance efforts across organization.
  • Assist with other projects as required to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of the work.
  • Helpdesk and end-user support

Required Qualifications*

  • BA/BS degree
  • 1-5 years of experience and detailed knowledge of SQL - Intermediate level
  • 5-7 years of experience and detailed knowledge of SQL - Senior level

Desired Qualifications*

  • Technical administration experience in Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud Applications Experience with data modeling and relational databases
  • Demonstrated creative critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow and meet operational deadlines.
  • Experience working with Financial and Clinical Healthcare data.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical accounting principles.

  • Excellent collaboration and coordination skills for an effective relationship with multiple teams, subject matter experts (SMEs), and customers
  • Experience with Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL)
  • Experience with query, report writing, and data visualization tools.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Experience with Oracle Analytics Cloud or similar BI tools.
  • Understanding of common IT business analysis, and/or project management methodologies and best practices
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud applications.
  • Clarity Certification or Proficiency
  • Experience working with Financial and Clinical Healthcare data.
