Job Summary
This research laboratory in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology and the Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI) is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Lab Technician who works well in a collaborative team environment. Responsibilities*
The goal of the laboratory is to uncover the mechanisms through which the circadian clock regulates metabolism and physiology, and how circadian disruption leads to metabolic disease. We use mouse and cell culture model systems to investigate the interplay between feeding time, metabolism, and energy balance. As the selected candidate, you will receive training from the principal investigator. Examples of typical work that will be performed are:
- Maintaining lab inventory and ordering supplies/reagents
- Maintenance of mouse colony, including weaning, DNA preparation, and genotyping by PCR
- Performing mammalian cell culture
- Assisting with experiments in mice and processing mouse tissues
- Performing molecular biology work, including isolation and analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein from samples and immunohistochemical staining
Required Qualifications*
A strong work ethic, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in an organized fashion are essential. Ability to work in teams is critical. Some occasional weekend work will be required.
Research Lab Tech Associate:
- Associate's Degree and 0-1 years' experience required.
Research Lab Tech Intermediate:
- Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years' experience required.
Desired Qualifications*
- A two-year minimum commitment is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in a laboratory environment is desired but not required.
Associate and Intermediate Level:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Cell Biology/ Biochemistry/ Physiology or related field preferred.
Work Schedule
M-F, 8 hour/days, with some weekends as needed.
