The School of Dentistry seeks a qualified HR Specialist to join its dynamic HR Team. This role will provide essential HR transactional and administrative support to HR Business Partners and the HR Director. Key responsibilities include processing a variety of Personnel Action Requests (PARs), managing new hire paperwork for faculty, and facilitating SoDo New Employee Orientation. Who We Are

As a member of the SoD HR team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of policies and procedures covering most areas of human resources for the School of Dentistry. The School of Dentistry has over 800 faculty and staff that support almost 700 students, both undergraduate and graduate/PhD programs. Responsibilities*

40% Employee Life Cycle HR Operational Support 

  • Process new hire process for adjuncts in CBCE and assist the HR Business Partners as needed, regular and student temporary staff including job postings, job offers, background checks, and employment paperwork. 
  • Uses PeopleSoft technology and best practices, ensuring compliance with unit, School, and UM HR policies and procedures. 
  • Process Personnel Action Requests (PARs) including effort changes, pay rate, supervisors, and offboarding, among others. 
  • Assist units with recruitment including help with resources, ads, and other low-cost options 

25% Human Resources Support 

  • Support HR team leads with projects and schedules 
  • Participate in the interviewing process as requested 
  • Triage support for HR issues when HR staff are in meetings or are out of the office 
  • Answer questions for staff and faculty 
  • Provide HR updates on projects and initiatives 
  • Partner with HR Director and Sr HR team members on fair and equitable workplace investigations when necessary, providing comprehensive insight and solution strategies with leadership 
  • Manage personnel and perceptive content. 
  • Provide calendar support and note-taking for committee meetings and leadership interviews when requested. 

20% New Employee Orientation 

  • Lead HR for NEO for new employees including managing logistics and leading the committee to determine the best topics and schedule for NEO events 
  • Partner with SoD HR and leadership on performance management needs for staff that align with University and School practices 
     

15% Reward and Recognition Programs 

  • Manage the processing of the School of Dentistry Thank You Program and other recognition initiatives from Human Resources and SoD Leadership. 
     

Required Qualifications*

  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible HR or office/administrative experience.
  • Experience with using discretion while handling and accessing confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, managing multiple assignments and performing a wide range of activities with accuracy with interruptions.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Excellent computer and technical skills, particularly with full range of MS Office Suite, written and oral communication.
     

Modes of Work

Background Screening
