Job Summary

This position reports to the Facility Manager for Michigan Stadium and The Junge Family Champions Center. The position assists with daily operations, repair and maintenance needs, and improvement projects at Michigan Stadium, Crisler Center and adjacent areas. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Associate Facility Manager primarily supports the facility related needs for internal and external rentals and events. The position also supports all Football gamedays and major events occurring at Michigan Stadium. The Associate Facility Manager is responsible for upholding the Internal Operations vision and ensuring the assigned facilities meet high standards for efficient operation, safety, maintenance, cleanliness, security, customer service and event execution. This position provides on-site event support requiring significant night and weekend work.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist the Facility Manager with the overall operation and direction of Michigan Stadium and adjacent areas including safety, security, scheduling, setups, cleanliness, repairs and
    maintenance, interior and exterior quality control and equipment operation. Assist the Facility Manager with all Facility Operations on football gamedays and other major events occurring at Michigan Stadium.
  • In collaboration with the Special Events unit, coordinate the facility-related needs for all internal and external rentals and events occurring at Michigan Stadium, The Junge Family Champions Center and Crisler Center. Coordination includes but is not limited to: janitorial and cleaning needs, setting furniture and seating layouts, catering, A/V requirements, load-in and load-out, vendor deliveries, conversions and other requirements to ensure successful execution of all events. In addition, once internal events are scheduled, this position is responsible for creating event layouts and serves as the main point of contact for the internal client.
  • Ensures all internal and external events are in compliance with University of Michigan policies, including fire and electrical codes, as well as applicable State and Federal laws.
  • Manage the staffing needs for all internal and external rentals and events, including scheduling of student and temporary employees to ensure appropriate staffing coverage. Collaborate with the Facility Manager to recruit, interview and hire student and temporary employees.
  • Coordinate the on-boarding and training needs for student and temporary employees, including adherence to all EHS and University guidelines and policies.
  • Directly supervise and manage the performance of student and temporary employees, including completion of task logs, checklists and attendance record.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, communicate updates and respond quickly to customer needs or requests. The position is expected to respond to facility related emergencies and issues when they occur, including nights and weekends.
  • Inspect facilities before, during and after events to assess safety, cleanliness and post event damages. Document all damages or issues and provide regular updates to both the Michigan Stadium and Crisler Center Facility Managers.
  • Assist the Facility Manager with the development, implementation and administration of facility operating budgets and expense control measures.
  • Assist the Facility Manager with the completion, implementation and record keeping of recurring preventative maintenance needs and work orders.
  • Ensure safety is the highest priority and comply with all EHS safety standards and programs.
  • Assure compliance with University protocols, ADA codes, NCAA and Big Ten Rules.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Facility Manager. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience in sports facility operations
  • Ability to work an irregular schedule, including nights and weekends

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree or appropriate mix of education and work experience
  • Successful experience working in a team environment
  • Experience in leading, managing, and evaluating employee performance
  • Knowledge and experience with web based university computer software and related programs
  • Experience in customer service related to facility management and event management
  • Experience maintaining large scale state-of-the art facilities and keeping them in pristine condition
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Big Ten Compliance rules
  • Knowledge of EHS Safety Programs
  • Turf management maintenance and experience

Modes of Work

Onsite: The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
