This is a full-time Social Work Supervisor position for a licensed (LMSW) social worker who is highly experienced working with patients in acute psychiatric care settings providing clinical care and leadership. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm.

This position will be an integral part of the Adult Partial Hospitalization Program, serving alongside the medical director of the program as the clinical director to provide leadership by supporting clinical supervision, case consultation, program management and personnel management to promote and support excellent psychiatric care to patients and their families. Assure compliance with regulatory agencies, University Hospitals, and Michigan Medicine Health System policies and procedures.  Exercise considerable independent decision-making authority and expertise specific to this area. Recruit, select, hire, orient and train, and evaluate staff in assigned areas. Primary activities and decision-making authority are predominantly performed independently. Participate in and contribute to projects and initiatives of the departmental leadership group, including coverage for colleagues, and off-hours administrative on-call coverage for support of staff working non-conventional hours. This position will also be responsible for some clinical care including intake into the program, as well as individual and group programming.

Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for:

  • Post positions, review resumes, interview candidates, select and hire, orient and train new staff.
  • Provide clinical consultation to staff, as well as administrative and clinical supervision.
  • Assume responsibility for difficult and complex cases based on experience or area of expertise as needed.
  • Provide specialty consultation to other health care staff.
  • Participate as a member of an inter- and intra-disciplinary team, including problem solving, program planning, clinical care planning, and quality improvement.
  • May provide direct patient care services including individual and group interventions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of productivity model, billing guidelines, and other documentation requirements related to the Department of Social Work. 

Required Qualifications*

  • A Master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is necessary.
  • Five years minimum of post-MSW experience necessary. Considerable experience working in Psychiatry and providing supervision to clinicians.
  • Current licensure (LMSW) to practice Social Work in the State of Michigan is required. 
  • Licensure will be verified via PSV by department administration.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience within acute care settings such as inpatient psychiatry, PHP, or CMH and supervision of limited license clinicians and previous administrative experiences. 
  • Demonstrated leadership with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
  • Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
  • Experience with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, IPT, ACT) and familiarity with brief, structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation) along with a basic knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Experience working with psychiatric populations providing individual and family psychotherapy including crisis intervention. 
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position. 
  • Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.

This is 1.0 FTE position. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.
