Job Summary

This is a .5 FTE with the Pediatric Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service at Mott Children's Hospital. The social worker will be part of a multidisciplinary team who provide psychiatric consultation to youth up to age 25 in the C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital on medical floors and in the medical emergency room. This is a daytime position working Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday 8am-4:30pm. Ours

Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing records, conducting psychosocial assessments, providing care management and care coordination with families and community partners and providers. 
  • Evaluating and recording progress with respect to treatment goals, and ongoing collaboration with the patient?s primary medical team and other relevant subspecialty services while drawing on social work experience and ongoing assessment of patient needs. 
  • Providing discharge planning which may include obtaining insurance authorizations, facilitating inpatient psychiatric admissions, PHP referrals, safety planning, coordinating outpatient care, and providing referrals for patients in the Childrens Emergency Services and inpatient medical services who are being actively followed by the Psychiatry CL Service. 
  • Participating in team meetings and other care coordination meetings on the CL service. This will require preparation, and the ability to make case presentations accurately and concisely. 
  • Working directly with patients both face-to-face and by phone contacts.  Some family work will occur via zoom or telephone. 
  • Providing brief therapeutic interventions drawing on evidence-based psychotherapies, as well as psychoeducation, safety planning, assisting family members in understanding and supporting the patient while offering adjustment to illness counseling.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience with medical and mental health social work.
  • Skilled in suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and lethal means restriction.
  • Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
  • Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.
  • Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position. 
  • Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.
  • Experience with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, PST, ACT, DBT) and familiarity with brief, structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation) along with a basic knowledge of psychopharmacology.

This is a .5 FTE position. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday 8am-4:30pm.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification.

Background Screening
