Job Summary
The UM-Dearborn Senior Project Manager, Business Affairs and Strategic Planning (Sr. Project Manager) position plays a critical role both within Business Affairs and on the University?s Strategic Planning Committee in managing strategic planning efforts, business operations, and strategic relationships.
The Sr. Project Manager reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and supports the CFO in the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives led by the Division of Business Affairs. The Sr. Project Manager also provides assistance to the CFO for on-going business operations and serves as the Business Affairs liaison to our strategic partners both external and across our university. Business Affairs consists of the departments of Finance (and Budgeting), Student Accounts, Facilities, Human Resources, and Public Safety. The Sr. Project Manager provides support to our departmental leaders on an as needed basis to assist in strategic efforts to meet our departmental goals and objectives.
The Sr. Project Manager plays a significant role on the Strategic Planning Committee. The Strategic Planning Committee, chaired by the Chief Strategy Officer / Vice Chancellor of Information Technology (CIO), is a small committee of campus executives that guides the implementation of the UM-Dearborn Strategic Plan and other strategic initiatives. The Sr. Project Manager supports the Committee through managing the agendas, facilitating the meetings, coordinating guests, participating in the strategic discussions, and tracking and monitoring progress of the strategic initiatives. The position also services in an advisory role to the senior executive team working in a collaborative, efficient, and dynamic environment.
Responsibilities*
Serve as a strategic advisor to the CFO.
Serve as a project manager as assigned for campus-wide or divisional projects.
Act as Business Affairs liaison to strategic partners across the Dearborn campus, on UM-Ann Arbor and Flint campuses, and with external third parties. Represent the CFO as needed and appropriate.
Manage Business Affairs? third-party contracts.
Participate in strategic planning and priority setting for the Business Affairs division.
Participate on campus committees.
Support and develop initiatives to enhance division culture such as cultivating positive leadership.
Support the CFO in managing the campus? enterprise risk management (ERM) program participating in the identification, assessment, and mitigation planning of potential university risk.
Support the Strategic Planning Committee and committee chair through coordinating and facilitating meetings, developing communication materials, and tracking progress towards initiatives and goals. Work directly with the committee chair to maintain the key performance indicator reports and coordinate annual publications relating to the Strategic Plan with the Marketing and Communications department.
Required Qualifications*
Education:
Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Finance, Project Management, or a related field required. Master?s degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 6 years of project management or related experience, ideally within higher education, finance, or administrative functions.
Skills:
Proven expertise in project management with an ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing environments.
Exceptional skills in: communication, collaboration, negotiation, leadership, and strategic thinking.
Ability to work across leadership levels, including top executives, and to influence and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Critical thinker with ability to collaborate as part of a team, and work independently in complex and dynamic situations.
Demonstrated ability to organize and work effectively in a matrix organization with cross-functional project teams.
