The University of Michigan's Electric Vehicle Center (EVC) unites researchers, educators, and industry to drive the innovation and talent development needed to lead the electric vehicle (EV) revolution in Michigan and beyond. The EVC is seeking a Project Senior Manager to lead its Workforce Development initiatives. This role will oversee the implementation of programs and tools designed to meet the evolving workforce needs of the EV industry. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing innovative projects, training programs, and partnerships that support the center's strategic goals, with a primary focus on achieving key workforce development milestones for 2025.

Responsibilities*

Project Management and Reporting

  • Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of workforce development projects.
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, including work schedules, estimates, budgets, resources, procurement processes, and vendor deliverables.
  • Leverage insights from labor market analysts and industry experts to inform project portfolios and address industry trends and skills gaps.
  • Develop stakeholder communication plans, and track and report program outcomes, key performance indicators, and impact metrics.
  • Train and manage student research associates for project support.

Workforce Program and Curriculum Development

  • Develop and implement innovative workforce development programs that address the evolving needs of the EV industry, focusing on skill-building, upskilling, and reskilling.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with educational institutions, industry experts, and training providers to ensure curriculum alignment with current and emerging EV technologies and standards.
  • Develop detailed curriculum plans, including objectives, materials, assessment tools, and integrate AI and digital learning platforms to enhance training accessibility and engagement.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to support program participants in achieving their learning goals.
  • Create evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness and use insights to improve and scale successful initiatives.

Outreach & Engagement

  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, educational institutions, and community organizations to align workforce development programs with EV ecosystem needs.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including industry leaders, government agencies, and nonprofits, to identify workforce challenges and develop inclusive solutions.
  • Represent the EVC at conferences, workshops, and community events to promote initiatives, share best practices, and enhance the center's industry presence.
  • Continuously grow technical skills to better serve the EV workforce sector.

Required Qualifications*

  • A master's degree in business or public administration, education/adult education, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in project management and oversight, budget management, and resource allocation. 
  • Experience in workforce development or related areas (5+ years).
  • Technical experience in the mobility, automotive, or related technology sectors (3+ years).
  • Experience collaborating with educational institutions, industry partners, or government agencies.
  • Strong skills in developing and implementing training programs and curricula.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to travel. 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Significant technical experience in a mobility sector (5+ years).
  • Expertise in technical curriculum development and learning solutions.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Underfill Statement

This position may be filled at the Project Senior Manager classification or underfilled at the Project Intermediate classification, depending upon qualifications and experience.

Additional Information

This position will be primarily remote and requires regular travel across Michigan. Attendance of meetings in the office on the Ann Arbor campus will be required (on average, 2-4 days per month). 

This position is a term-limited position from February 1, 2025 - January 31, 2026, with the possibility of continued funding for additional years.
