Job Summary
The University of Michigan is looking for an experienced Security Specialist to join our Division of Public Safety and Security. In this critical role and reporting to the Associate Director, you will conduct security assessments, improve safety measures, and collaborate with team members and campus partners to protect our campuses, clinics, and administrative sites.
This is an on-site position located in Ann Arbor. Michigan.

The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations.

Responsibilities*
- Perform and evaluate security assessments to identify vulnerabilities in physical security systems, including access control, alarms, and surveillance
- Prepare and present detailed reports with actionable recommendations to senior leadership
- Conduct site vulnerability surveys following incidents and recommend preventative strategies
- Collaborate with facility managers, law enforcement, and university departments on proactive security solutions and staff training
- Support special projects and ensure compliance with safety and fire codes
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelors degree in security management, criminal justice, or related field and/or equivalent experience - minimum of 3 years in risk assessment work
- Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Certification - National Institute of Crime Prevention (or equivalent), within 6 months
- Certified Security Assessment Specialist - American Crime Prevention Institute, within 6 months
- Physical Security Professional (PSP) - ASIS International, within 1-year

Additional Information
All members of the DPSS team are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report any Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees must also complete the Clery Compliance training within 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
