Job Summary

The Turner Geriatric Clinic has an immediate need for 4 pharmacy students to assist part-time with processing requests for medication refills and prior authorizations.

Pay is $22/ hour and you will be supervised by clinic nurses and Dr. Kippes. Interns are required to work 10-12 hours per week. Each day of the week must have pharmacy intern coverage and is divided between the interns.

For P1 students applying, this is a 2 year commitment.

Responsibilities*

  • Reconcile patient and pharmacy-initiated prescription refill requests with active medications in MiChart.
  • Transmit prescription refill authorizations to pharmacies electronically, by phone, or fax.
  • Communicate with health care providers (physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists) verbally and in writing.
  • Communicate with patients verbally.
  • Process prior authorization requests.
  • Document work through normal clinic processes.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Intern License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematical skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.

Desired Qualifications*

Prior Intern experience is highly desired but not required. Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations is also highly desired.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
