Job Summary
The University of Michigan (U-M) Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) and the U-M Center for Disability Health and Wellness (CDHW) are seeking a motivated health equity postdoctoral fellow to work under the mentorship of Dr. Michelle Meade. The fellow will work on NIDILRR-funded RRTC grant projects focused on Health Equity among adults with physical, sensory, cognitive, and developmental disabilities from diverse communities. The fellow will support the maintenance and updating of a Disability Dashboard and contribute to the development of the Disability Healthcare Equity Index for Healthcare systems. They are also expected to serve as a liaison to various community organization in Southeastern Michigan to facilitate the development of community-based participatory research and support capacity building within these organizations. Dedicated time will be reserved for the fellow to develop career development grants and portfolio items. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunities and associated funds to travel to national conferences for both professional development and to share research.
Candidates must possess a terminal degree in public health, psychology, economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field with considerable quantitative analytical skills. Experience accessing and analyzing large national survey datasets - including Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey, Health and Retirement Study (BRFSS), and / or the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey is highly desired, while experience with data management and statistical analysis using SAS, STATA, or R is required. Experience with national administrative data (e.g., Medicare) is also desirable. Educational and / or research knowledge and experience related to issues of healthcare disparities, disability, systematic racism and / or intersectionality is strongly encouraged.
Responsibilities*
- Development of manuscript for peer review publications;
- Development and submission of abstracts and presentation of research at national conferences;
- This position involves a wide range of tasks related to management and analysis of quantitative data. A significant effort in this position will be devoted to secondary analysis of publicly available survey data.
- Experience analyzing and integration of multiple data sources with varying degree of complexity.
- Specifically, the position involves providing statistical support including:
- Extracting, cleaning, managing, merging, and analyzing data from publicly available national survey datasets.
- Writing, testing, and implementing programs using SAS/STATA/R to clean, manage, merge, and analyze large, complex datasets.
- Preparing and maintaining technical documentation of data and analysis files.
- Summarizing, interpreting, and presenting results in written, tabular and visual formats for reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Assisting in the writing and editing of reports, research briefs, abstracts, manuscripts, conference presentations, and grant proposals.
- Participating as a team member in discussions on analysis and improvement of data collection, quality of data analyses, programming, and documentation.
Required Qualifications*
- PhD or other terminal degree in a relevant field
- Working knowledge of epidemiologic concepts and methodology.
- Experience with complex data structures and linkages between data sources.
- Research experience, including Human Subjects Training
- Publication record
- Satisfactory performance in the first year of the fellowship is required for its extension into a second

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

Background Screening
