Job Summary

The department of Emergency Medicine seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Specialist to support biomarker assay development, execution, and biorepository management within the department at NCRC. The successful candidate will play a critical role in running biomarker assays using the Quanterix SR-X automated platform and the Abbott Alinity i Core Lab Instrument, developing and performing ELISA-based assays, and utilizing other protein quantification techniques. This position will also assist with setting up, maintaining, and overseeing a biorepository, ensuring proper sample handling, processing, storage, and tracking.

Responsibilities*

     Biomarker Assays & Laboratory Work:

  • Conduct biomarker assays using Quanterix SR-X, ensuring precision, reproducibility, and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop and perform ELISA-based assays and other protein quantification techniques to measure biomarker concentrations in biological samples.
  • Assist in assay optimization, validation, and troubleshooting to enhance assay performance and reliability.
  • Perform sample preparation (e.g., dilution, extraction, aliquoting) and data collection using automated and manual methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental protocols, results, and laboratory activities in electronic lab notebooks and databases.
  • Collaborate with research teams to analyze and interpret assay results.
     

     Biorepository Management:

  • Assist in setting up and maintaining a biorepository for long-term sample storage and management.
  • Ensure proper sample handling, processing, labeling, inventory tracking, and retrieval using laboratory management software.
  • Implement and maintain SOPs for sample storage conditions, quality control, and chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Work closely with investigators and collaborators to manage sample requests and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
     

     Laboratory Maintenance & Compliance:

  • Ensure laboratory equipment, including Quanterix SR-X, is properly maintained, calibrated, and operated according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain compliance with biosafety regulations, institutional protocols, and quality assurance standards.
  • Order and manage laboratory supplies and reagents.

Required Qualifications*

  • Strong knowledge of sample handling procedures and biorepository management.
  • Proficiency in laboratory data collection, documentation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and compliance with biosafety regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced research environment.
     

Intermediate level:  Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory setting

Associate level:  Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory setting

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
  • 5 or more years experience 
  • Two years of hands-on experience in a laboratory setting performing ELISA-based assays and/or other protein quantification techniques.
  • Experience with automated biomarker platforms (e.g., Quanterix SR-X or similar instruments).
  • Experience in multiplex biomarker assays or other high-sensitivity immunoassay platforms.
  • Knowledge of Luminex, MSD, Western blot, or mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
  • Previous experience working in a biorepository or clinical research laboratory.
  • Familiarity with laboratory inventory management software and electronic databases.
     

Work Schedule

Full time onsite Monday thru Friday at NCRC.  Flexible schedule with occasional evenings and weekends may be required depending on the nature of the project.

Background Screening
