The Assistant Dean for Advancement for Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan (U-M) is a member of the school's executive leadership team, and a visible presence at the University and its extended regional, national, and global community of alumni, donors, and strategic partners. Reporting to the Dean, this experienced individual leads two departments at the School: development and marketing.
In this role, the Assistant Dean is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to increase support for the School. This work includes managing a portfolio of principal gift prospects, and forming strategic partnerships and programs to meet institutional needs and goals. Working collaboratively across the School, the campus, and beyond, this person has the potential to positively impact the Stamps School and its people for years to come.

Responsibilities*
- Leadership: Lead a diverse team, including marketing and communications staff. Collaborate with the Dean and CFO to manage budgets and ensure programs are fiscally responsible. Participate in senior leadership to identify funding and communication priorities.
- Marketing and Communication: Oversee the Advancement team to enhance the college's image. Manage the Stamps website, external communications, and outreach to donors and prospective students.
- Fundraising: Manage a portfolio of principal gift prospects. Direct strategies to secure gifts and set measurable fundraising goals. Lead and inspire the Advancement team.
- Strategic Planning: Engage with donors and supporters regionally and internationally. Collaborate with U-M leadership to develop strategic efforts and donor engagement to promote Stamps priorities.
- Events: Oversee events and community meetings, contributing to strategies that enhance the school's reputation through symposia, exhibitions, and lectures.
Required Qualifications*
We are looking for an experienced leader with a track record in fundraising and team management to lead a successful advancement program in higher education. The ideal candidate will have experience managing marketing and communications teams, and a history of raising gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Qualifications include:
- Demonstrated leadership in fundraising with experience in higher education.
- Experience in developing and managing fundraising teams and campaigns.
- Strong track record in securing gifts from diverse sources.
- Experience leading large organizations, including senior managers and fundraisers.
- Commitment to encouraging a collaborative and respectful organizational culture.
- Commitment to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals.
- Knowledgeable in Art and Design and higher education issues.
- Ability to engage and leverage partners.
- Experience with senior-level fundraising volunteers and diverse alumni.
- Collaborative leadership style with creativity and political experience.
- Bachelor's degree and 8 or more years experience in fund raising, public relations, and/or alumni relations required.
- Willingness to travel.
