This position will serve as a Research Laboratory Technician Associate in the Oncology Clinical Trial Support Unit (O-CTSU) providing biospecimen processing and management support to faculty and research teams for the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer - an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). Responsibilities*

  • Provides routine to moderately complex technical lab support for a research facility.
  • Sets up and QCs kits for research draws.
  • Processes samples according to protocol or lab manual. Records sample disposition with complete and accurate documentation on requisition forms, shipping documents, and CTMS. Ships research specimens per protocol. E-mail or call receiving sites as required per protocol.
  • Performs and records routine instrument maintenance procedures; (ex. temp logs, scraping freezers, reviewing nitrogen supply, etc.)
  • Identifies lab quality issues and communicates with CRSP leadership for assistance with resolution.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or Associates Degree in a health-related discipline or equivalent experience in chemistry, biology, or a related health science is desired 
  • 1 year of experience.
  • This position requires accountability, teamwork, ability to stand extended time periods and raise 35 lb. centrifuge lid and the desire to continually update and improve operations within the facility.
  • Flexibility to provide team coverage during normal hours and after hours of service required, negotiated as needed.
  • Effective communication skills using both written and spoken English are critical.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
