The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Program in Biophysics at the University of Michigan invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I position at 100% effort for the Fall 2025 term. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025, and end on December 31, 2025.

Responsibilities*
This position is responsible for teaching 1 discussion of Physics 150/Biophysics 150 - Fundamental Physics for the Life Sciences I, and 2 discussion sections of Physics 250/Biophysics 250 - Fundamental Physics for the Life Sciences II in the Fall 2025 semester. In addition to classroom teaching, Lecturers are expected to attend course meetings, hold office hours, grade student work, and handle routine matters related to instruction.

Course Objectives:
Fundamental Physics for the Life Sciences I & II explore physics principles that are ubiquitous in the life sciences. Biology, chemistry, and medicine will provide our guiding motivation and context for exploring first-semester physics topics including energy, mechanics, fluids, and thermodynamics. These topics will be covered in the depth and manner in which they appear on the MCAT and in life science courses. In line with this, students will also learn to use quantitative reasoning, develop mathematical models, and engage in scientific dialogue with a diverse group of future scientists and healthcare professionals. This course examines physical concepts through biological examples and consists of both interactive lectures and studio meetings to facilitate student learning and enhance student performance.
Required Qualifications*
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Biophysics, Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related field and must have experience teaching introductory Physics. The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicants education and experience meet the required minimum qualifications for the position. Qualified candidates should be fluent in the area of expertise and exhibit evidence of excellent teaching skills.
Desired Qualifications*
Preference will be given to candidates who have familiarity with Pearson Mastering Physics or similar online homework platforms.
