Job Summary

EMG Tech will assist the Physician/Provider in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care by operating diagnostic equipment in order to diagnose diseases, injuries and abnormalities. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform or learn diagnostic electromyography testing procedures.

Responsibilities*

EMG Lab-To prepare patients for and conduct standard electromyographic tests which measure muscle response and nerve conduction. Collect information pertinent to the interpretation of the test. Explain test procedures and instruct patients on proper positioning during the test. Apply suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the patient and check their performance. Calibrate and adjust the EMG apparatus. Complete and forward charge slips for billing purposes. Lifting patients for positioning and transportation. Continuing education by participating in conferences and technical meetings.

Autonomic Lab-Prepare patients and conduct standard autonomic tests which measure a variety of functions controlled by the autonomic nervous system including sweating, heart rate variability and blood pressure variability.  Routine nerve conduction studies are also performed.

Required Qualifications*

  • An Associate's degree in health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience with the methods, equipment and materials used in electromyography
  • Must be Certified by AAET
  • Prior hands on patient care and contact.
  • Available for flexible scheduling to cover vacations of other staff members.
  • Interpersonal skills that promote positive working relationships.
  • Capable of developing computer keyboard skills.

Underfill Requirements:

  • This position may be underfilled with a candidate who is in the process of receiving the AAET certification.  Certification must be obtained within one year.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
