Job Summary

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Michigan-Dearborn sees student program staff to help in the GirlsGetMath@Dearborn Summer Program, June 23 - 27, 2025, on the campus of the University of Michigan - Dearborn. More details about the program can be found here

Responsibilities*

Program staff will work alongside professors from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and will assist with organizing and running the summer program. 

  • Program staff are expected to arrive no later than 8:30 am every day of the program and help set up the activities for the day. 
  • Assist a group of 3-5 high-school students in mathematics activities, during lectures and labs.
  • Participate in discussions with the rest of the team after the end of activities every day.
  • Spend time preparing before the program's start and meet with the professors as needed.
  • Complete the required Children on Campus training prior to the start of the program.

Required Qualifications*

  • Good communication skills, reliability, and willingness to learn and teach are important for this position.
  • Applicants must have taken at least Calculus 3. A course in Linear Algebra or Discrete Mathematics would be helpful, but is not required.
  • Experience with programming, esp. MATLAB, is preferable.
  • Experience with tutoring or participation in outreach activities is a plus.
