Job Summary

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Middle East Studies at the University of Michigan, invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I in Arabic Language for the Fall 2025 Term. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include instruction at any assigned level of Arabic classes and active involvement in teamwork and program affairs. Appointment level will be 100%. This is a renewable one-term appointment.

Required Qualifications*

Applicants should have Superior level proficiency in Standard Arabic, English, and at least one variety of spoken Arabic. Experience teaching Arabic at the post-secondary level is required. Minimum of a Master's degree in foreign language teaching or equivalent field is required. 

Desired Qualifications*

A demonstrated understanding of and ability to use a proficiency-based, communicative methodology in language instruction is highly desired.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
