Department Overview

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support. 

Division Overview

The HITS Clinical & Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division is responsible for more than 350 clinical and revenue cycle applications that clinicians, staff, and patients rely upon every day. The CRC team has subdivisions that support inpatient, ambulatory, departmental, and revenue cycle areas across Michigan Medicine (MM). CRC also oversees many of the major IT platforms and applications such as the electronic health record, virtual care, pharmacy, radiology, radiation oncology, registration, document management, billing, and much more. The CRC team is highly relied upon across the healthcare system and collaborates with operational partners to provide excellent service to the MM staff. Staff within CRC often interact with customers on a regular basis by implementing and configuring workflows, enhancements, optimizations, and new modules or software while also ensuring adequate change control and testing processes occur. Team members work on a vast array of projects that propel MM into the future.

Job Summary

The Clinical Application group within the Division of Clinical and Revue Cycle (CRC) within the Department of Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) seeks an IT professional to oversee all aspects of computer operations and support for clinical departmental applications and Michigan Medicine managed hardware. Relating to applications this includes investigating, purchasing, implementing, and maintaining computer applications which enhance the clinical efficiency and productivity of clinical departments. Relating to managed hardware, this includes desktop installations, upgrades and troubleshooting of all new and existing hardware, software and network issues. Provides advice and assistance over the phone and in person for all information technology related problems. The candidate will primarily support the Michigan Reproductive Medicine Clinic located in West Bloomfield, MI. 

Responsibilities*

The ideal candidate

  • Develops a strong working collaboration with HITS and clinical customers, understands processes and policies and aligns customer requests effectively with this infrastructure.
  • Communicates effectively to bridge HITS and clinical department strategic priorities, goals, deliverables, and standards.
  • Collaborates in the acquisition and implementation of department specific clinical information systems.
  • Provides technical and user support for clinical applications.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate issues within Michigan Medicine enterprise devices.
  • Understand enterprise managed image support and configurations.
  • Workstation installation project work encompassing enterprise-wide OS upgrades, facility projects including new equipment and hardware upgrades.
  • Works with Information Assurance (IA) to provide a mature and safe clinical IT environment.
  • Oversee support, maintenance, optimization, upgrade and/or replacement of departmental clinical computer systems.
  • Training related to customer requests, desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, printers, scanners, all in one fax/copiers, peripheral devices, etc.
  • Equipment management including recommendations, customer requests for equipment, purchasing, receiving, un-boxing, deployment, tracking, and preparation for property disposition.
  • Creates and maintains documentation regarding application architecture and support.
  • Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with Department Managers, Supervisors, as well as involving the next level of administration as appropriate.
  • Works closely with clinical customers to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes that include further integration into operations. Implements quality control monitors.
  • Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation, implementation, and training of new systems, applications, and upgrades.
  • Attends and participates in departmental/hospital meetings. Attends seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence.
  • Assists in ensuring all department, hospital, Compliance, HIPAA and TJC (formerly JACHO) guidelines are met.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2-3 Years of IT related experience
  • 2-3 years of progressive device support experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with the eIVF platform
  • Experience prioritizing a high volume of requests from a diverse customer group. 
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing continuous process improvement methodologies, Lean or Six Sigma, to improve work processes and solutions.
  • Demonstrated strong decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and flexibility.
  • Exceptional relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to identify root causes of technical problems while prioritizing tasks and time to meet assigned commitments.
  • Ability to produce clear communications for diverse audiences using appropriate methods.
  • Ability to support new combinations of network protocols, desktop operating systems and applications.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills, ability to work independently as well as a member of a team. 

Work Locations

This position is responsible for primary application and device support at the Michigan Reproductive Medicine Clinic located in Bloomfield Hills, MI
