The leaders and best in food service have an opportunity available for a Food Service Worker II to join our team. Food Service Personnel are expected to provide world class customer service to Michigan Medicine patients, visitors and their coworkers while maintaining the highest quality standards for food safety and sanitation.

Responsibilities*

Assemble & Deliver: Carefully prepare and deliver meal trays, adhering to protocols for safety, dietary needs, and allergy precautions. Your attention is key to ensuring patient well-being.

Hand Hygiene & Safety: Follow The Joint Commission's standards, ensuring proper hand hygiene and the use of protective equipment. Your commitment helps maintain a safe environment for all.

Tech-Savvy Service: Utilize iPads and cell phones to streamline and track meal deliveries with precision and ease.

Collaborative Communication: Engage professionally with nursing staff, colleagues, and management to support seamless service.

Culinary Precision: Prepare food using standard recipes for consistent portion control, following SERV Safe procedures for food safety.

Sanitation Standards: Maintain high sanitation standards, ensuring all service ware and equipment are thoroughly cleaned according to health regulations.

Efficient Operations: Use the CBORD Food Management System to ensure smooth food production and tray assembly, delivery, and retrieval.

Safety & Ergonomics: Perform tasks safely with attention to proper ergonomic standards, reducing the risk of strain as you bend, twist, and reach.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions
  • Critical thinking and independent problem-solving abilities
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Physical ability to safely perform job duties, including standing, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 35 pounds, and walking up to 5 miles per day
  • Commitment to excellent customer service with a friendly attitude
  • Willingness to adapt to new processes, technologies, and schedule changes
  • Good personal hygiene and professional appearance
  • Reliable attendance
  • Basic proficiency with IT equipment such as iPads and computers

Modes of Work

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
