Job Summary

The University of Michigan Health Center for Reproductive Medicine at Bloomfield Hills Patient Services Senior will provide direct leadership to the clerical team in addition to providing support to patients, families, physicians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan Health System provides the highest level of patient care in areas related to human reproduction including female and male infertility, assisted reproductive technologies, reproductive surgery, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, polycystic ovary syndrome, developmental problems, and issues related to reproductive hormones.

Responsibilities*

  • Responsible for the coordination of daily functional leadership for the clerical team. 
  • Provides interpretation and instruction for policies, procedures, and practices. 
  • Maintains work schedules, reviews timesheets for accuracy, and assists with performance evaluations for other clerical team members.
  • Provides in-service training and onboarding for new clerical staff. 
  • Participates with the leadership team to ensure effective clinical operations.
  • Promotes and facilitates positive communication with the entire health care team. 
  • May lead team huddles.
  • Provide support, education, and guidance to a patient throughout their continuum of care.
  • Proactively build relationships with patients by regular contact with them to assist in identifying barriers to care.
  • Assist patients, navigating them through the complex logistics of the health system. 
  • Work with Outpatient Financial Clearance & Counseling to correct address billing concerns/denials processed through the clinic. 
  • Work with the Centralized Prior Authorization department for services and coordination of prior authorizations.
  • Communicate solutions, issues, and risks directly with management or other responsible entities to ensure a fully integrated solution across the clinic. 
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle to address patient-related financial concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team or project.
  • Experience facilitating and coordinating a patient's continuum of care, as well as identifying and recommending appropriate resources available.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires infrequent standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field, Business Administration, or other related field.
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. 
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, days. This position entails some weekend and holiday work on a rotation basis with other colleagues.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
