Job Summary

The Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School is seeking a Research Assistant to work on a team of researchers conducting health-related studies on aging. Currently, we are performance sites in two multicenter trials- one with older patients hospitalized at Michigan Medicine and the second focusing on older adults who receive primary care at Michigan Medicine. This position offers a flexible work schedule with primarily on-site training, work, and meetings at the 300 North Ingalls Building. Anticipated number of work hours per week is 10-15. This position is grant funded and dependent on continuation of funding.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist with general administrative tasks for the team
  • Entering research data and managing databases
  • Maintain accurate and detailed study records
  • Prepare and mail study information to study-eligible older adults
  • Assist in the follow-up of potential study participants, including making phone calls and sending emails
  • Assist in recruitment and enrollment of older adults in research studies
  • Attend research team trainings and meetings

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelors degree is required, preferably with a social science, health science or public health focus.
  • Proficiency in the PC environment and with programs including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable speaking with other researchers and older adults
  • Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail 
  • Excellent attention to detail, including following detailed instructions and careful documentation 
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multiple team members 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of others.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with older adults in a research or work environment or in a volunteer role
  • Familiarity with REDCap preferred

Background Screening
