Job Summary

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is looking for a Peer Coordinator to join our expanding research team. The successful candidate will be crucial in providing coordination of a peer mentor team as part of a research initiative to improve the mental health of transgender and nonbinary individuals starting gender-affirming hormones. The ideal candidate will assist with training and supervision of peer mentors for the duration of the research study. The peer coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Study Coordinator to ensure the peer support initiative is conducted in accordance with our study protocol, our guiding principles, and University of Michigan regulatory guidelines. This position is temporary and requires approximately 5-10 hours/week. Fully remote candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities*

  • Aid the development of peer mentor training manual and schedule
  • Assist with the training of peer mentors working closely with study participants
  • Facilitate peer mentor and participant matching
  • Lead weekly group check-ins with peer mentors; address peer mentor issues and answer questions as needed
  • Manage and help resolve potential conflicts between peer mentors and study participants
  • Ensure peer mentors adhere to peer support code of conduct
  • Conduct quality evaluations to ensure peer mentoring is meeting needs and expectations

Required Qualifications*

  • Experience engaging with people from various communities
  • Training and group meeting facilitation experience
  • Demonstrated experience with problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Comfortable interacting and discussing mental health issues
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be inclusive and respectful of all gender identities

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Professional experience with peer support

Modes of Work
