Job Summary

The Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC) at UM-Dearborn is looking for a program assistant who will assist with various aspects of the educational, research, community engagement, and stewardship mission of the EIC. The candidate will work under the direction of the EIC Director and in close collaboration with other EIC staff. They will be required to interact with university faculty, students, and staff, as well as outside organizations and community partners. 

This role is interactive with the university community which requires an in-person on campus presence in the EIC

Responsibilities*

  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of environmental education programs
  • Lead programs as an interpretive naturalist
  • Coordinate training and mentoring of new student interpretive naturalists
  • Assist EIC leadership with on-campus outreach 
  • Support university faculty and students, as well as community partners, who are utilizing the EIC or Environmental Study Area (ESA) for teaching and/or research
  • Collaborate with EIC staff on department communications (i.e., eNewsletter, social media)
  • Assist with conservation and maintenance efforts in the EIC/ESA.  

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • 1-3 years experience leading environmental programs as interpretive naturalist
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and establish priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and produce detailed and accurate work

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental field
  • Experience in natural area maintenance
