Job Summary

The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) is seeking a Student Office Assistant who will provide administrative and programmatic support to the office. This role is ideal for an organized and motivated student who is interested in campus involvement, supporting their peers, and leadership development. The Student Office Assistant will play a vital role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus community by helping execute student programs, initiatives, and daily office operations. This position will be scheduled 10-20 hours per week and will be for both the fall and winter semesters with the possibility of working during spring and summer terms.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide friendly and professional front desk support, including welcoming visitors with a positive attitude, answering phone calls, taking messages, and assisting with general inquiries and administrative tasks.
  • Assist students in navigating campus resources by connecting them to appropriate services within ODOS or other university departments based on individual needs.
  • Support coordination of space and equipment reservations, including bookings for the Student Loft, windows, billiards equipment, and lockers.
  • Assist with the planning, promotion, setup, and support of departmental events, including Welcome Programs and other student engagement initiatives as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain office supply inventory; ensure storage areas are tidy and well-organized
  • Create marketing and promotional materials such as flyers, training videos, social media posts, and digital signage.
  • Review and approve promotional flyers for display on designated ODOS bulletin boards, following posting guidelines.
  • Help with entering information and maintaining accurate records for events and student organizations using the designated database or forms. 
  • Collaborate with other student assistants and professional staff on special projects.
  • Understand all department policies and processes and ensure proper implementation.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of ODOS.

Required Qualifications*

  • Must be an enrolled UM-Flint student for the full academic year
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Be in and maintain good disciplinary standing
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and the ability to develop other computer skills as needed
  • Strong people skills with sensitivity to the needs of students.
  • Self-motivation and discipline to carry out independent tasks.

Modes of Work

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
