Responsibilities*

  • Welcome and check patients in. 
  • Determine existence of previous registration if applicable and verify update insurance information. 
  • If new patient, complete registration documentation.   
  • Verify proper consents are on file and completed.  
  • Obtain all signatures for non-covered service prior to appointment. 
  • Obtain copay amounts and give estimates to parent. 
  • Scan patient paperwork, insurance cards into MiDent.  
  • Check patients out; confirm payment was collected and billing and diagnosis codes were entered. 
  • Announce patient arrivals over the intercom in a professional manner.   
  • Schedule appointments for return visits.
  • Triage calls within established guidelines for immediate attention for patient payments, directions and scheduling information.   
  • Schedule patients for multiple clinics; PreDoc, Graduate, and Pediatric Orthodontics.  
  • Determine insurance eligibility through patient card and verify with guarantor.  
  • Manage front desk mail, email and phone messages. 
  • Collect cash and credit card payments from patients using established guidelines to determine patient pay portion, insurance portion of professional courtesy as assigned. 
  • Reconcile clinic cash collections daily. 
  • Assist patients with billing and insurance inquiries. 
  • Display excellent customer service and attitude towards patients, students/residents, faculty and staff.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required with some college preferred.  
  • Considerable clerical experience is necessary including experience in an outpatient clinic setting.  
  • Knowledge of dental terminology.  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with an extremely busy and hectic clinic environment.   
  • Knowledge of Word,  Excel and Dropbox.  
  • Knowledge of dental insurance plans.  
  • Welcoming personality.  
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy clinical environment. 
  • Excellent attendance record. 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of axiUm/MiDent.  
  • Familiarity with the Dental School.

This position is located at the School of Dentistry at 1011 N University Ave Ann Arbor, MI

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
