Job Summary

Research Assistant position available for UM-Flint Undergraduate or Graduate students to work under the supervision of Dr. Khalil Khanafer. Hourly rate is $15 for undergraduate students or $35.91 for graduate students. The position is short term, from now until the end of August. 

Responsibilities*

  • Assist in the design of experiments for material and process parameter studies
  • Prepare and test specimens for mechanical, thermal, and microstructural analysis
  • Experimental analysis of Tensile and fatigue testing in Instron machine.
  • Analyze experimental data using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or statistical software (SPSS, Excel, etc.)
  • Conduct literature reviews and contribute to drafting research publications and reports
  • Maintain detailed records of procedures, results, and equipment usage

Required Qualifications*

  • UM-Flint Undergraduate or Graduate Student
  • Experience with additive manufacturing techniques and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
  • Familiarity with material characterization methods (e.g., tensile testing, Fatigue testing)

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis (e.g., ANOVA, Post Hoc, etc.) and statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS)
  • Strong analytical and communication skills

Modes of Work

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Background Screening
