Responsibilities*
- Perform information services desk duties which include maintaining user accounts, course reserve and physical material handling and processing, checking out and checking in physical material, and shelving material.
- Provide basic library and campus information services to users in person, over email, and by phone.
- Collect statistics on interactions at service desks to help inform decision-making related to service improvements at the Library.
- Respond to inquiries and communicate building access policies to library users.
- Regularly open and/or close buildings and service points.
- Support the day-to-day work of student employees.
Required Qualifications*
- High School Graduate or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to adapt and respond to different types of questions and situations.
- Previous experience in customer service environments.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail.
- Interest in a non-traditional work schedule including evenings and weekends.
Work Schedule
Note: Multiple schedules available. Please include with your resume a written statement of interest that indicates which schedules suit your availability.
- Hatcher Graduate Library and Shapiro Undergraduate Library, with a schedule of Saturday and Sunday, 10:00AM-6:30PM with an unpaid 30 minute lunch.
- Hatcher Graduate Library and Shapiro Undergraduate Library, with a schedule of Sunday-Thursday, 7:00PM-12:30AM.
- Art, Architecture and Engineering Library, with a schedule of Sunday, 1:00PM-9:00PM with an unpaid 30 minute lunch, and Monday-Thursday, 4PM-9PM.
- Fine Arts Library, with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:45AM - 1:45PM.
Flexibility is available with advance notice, but the temporary employee is generally expected to work their assigned standing schedule.
Note: These are non-student temporary positions. Recent graduates with a graduation date in May 2025 or August 2025 are welcome to apply.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
