What You'll Do

IOE seeks a dedicated and student-centered Advisor and Graduate Program Coordinator to support the academic success and development of its graduate student population. IOE currently enrolls approximately 200 masters students across Rackham and College of Engineering MEng programs, as well as 65 PhD students.

The Graduate Program Advisor & Coordinator will supervise 2-3 student staff positions and receive direct supervision from the Student Services Manager. 

Advising
Provide individual and group advising to approximately 200 masters students on program requirements, policies, and academic or personal concerns. Conduct degree audits, maintain advising records, and support student success through timely referrals and resources. Stay current on course offerings, visa regulations, and STEM career trends. Liaise with faculty and campus partners as needed.

Program Administration
Manage degree progress tracking and respond to inquiries for masters and PhD students. Coordinate student programming, fellowships, and data reporting. Oversee graduate student temp hiring and supervision.

Recruitment & Admissions
Lead graduate admissions and onboarding processes in collaboration with faculty and university partners. Provide program data and coordinate recruitment efforts, including EMERGE, the IOE Future Graduate Student Workshop, and Recruitment Weekend. Serve as the primary contact for prospective students.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in student services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Proficiency with web-based systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace tools
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality service in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, with a proven ability taking initiative to create efficient solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced setting
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to complex issues with creativity and initiative
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or a related field
  • At least two (2) years of experience in academic advising or counseling, with experience coordinating student outreach or programming
  • Extensive experience with M-Pathways/Wolverine Access and a thorough understanding of University policies and procedures related to undergraduate education
  • Familiarity with Business Objects and College of Engineering systems
